Spin, the candle designed by Flavia de Laubadère rises like a sculpture from the top of its turned wood pedestal. In its distinctive lines you can see the story of an age-old process constantly reinvented.
Passionate about craftsmanship from which she draws inexhaustible creative resources, one day Flavia de Laubadère tried out a wood lathe in order to understand its challenges and specific features. Restricted by the technical difficulties of the machine, she decided to practice first by turning wax. The malleable material was wonderful to carve, soon revealing Spin as a candle as innovative as it is attractive.
This unique object, whose curved lines describe all the movements of the machine, stands on a wooden base that has been worked in the same way in order to display it at its best. The carved candle soon acquired cult status thanks to Designerbox, which industrialized the process by opting for a digital lathe.

Gravity Drops, a glass blown carafe designed by Vanessa Mitrani makes an ingenious use of balance from its wooden base.
"Gathered” by using a long rod - or cane - in the furnace where it is melted, the glass never stops flowing. In order to get the right amount to be blown, the rod must be continuously turned so as to avoid the gathered glass leaking onto the ground.
Vanessa Mitrani has inherited from her mother, a lab researcher, a passion for animals as well as the love to experiment and «to do». A student at ENSAD (Paris Decorative Arts University) specialising in furniture design, she happily escapes the classrooms to experience craft techniques in workshops, including glass techniques. It is therefore by «doing» that the designer started working with glass, her professional love affair.
